The auditorium was brightly lit. There was no trace of darkness there.
Suddenly, I was reminded of the darkest moments of my life. The fire on the thatched roof should not have taken just my mother.
As a little girl, when I walked alone on the streets, the men around looked at me like a prey. To them, I was just a piece of flesh. I was too young that I knew neither the term rape nor its meaning. I just knew that I am being harassed. They started chasing me. I ran, ran and ran piercing the darkness.
“Throw some light on me” I screamed aloud. There was a sudden flash of light. I skidded and fell before a car. I squinted my eyes and there stood Mr.Mathew and his son Jacob.
“A fiery light took away her mother’s life. A flash of light gave her new life. Today, she is a life giver to thousands of destitute women across the globe. We are proud to welcome Ms.Vidhya Jacob, the founder of Flashlight organization to receive the best social activist award 2017,” the anchor announced on stage.
The spotlight fell on me.
